THE STORY OF SCRIPTURE Personal and Family Devotional Guide Week #2 – Fall
Day 1: Read Genesis 3. Genesis 3 describes Satan as “crafty.” His “craftiness” was displayed in the following: (1) his decision to take the form of a serpent in order to disguise his true identity; and (2) his ability to mix truth with deception in the midst of temptation. What “forms” has Satan adopted to disguise himself from you lately? During temptation, what “elements of truth” has Satan used to camouflage the deception he was feeding you?
Day 2: Read Genesis 3. Genesis 3 reveals a “paradigm for sin” – evil desires/longings lead to sin and sin always results in consequences (James 1:13-15). Do you have a tendency to let evil desires/longings grow and develop in your flesh? If so, why? What keeps you from eliminating these desires/longings immediately?
Day 3: Read Genesis 3. Satan creates evil desires/longings in your flesh through lies and deception (John 8:43-44). Consider the temptations you faced today. What lies/deception did Satan use to create these evil desires/longings? What “God truths” could you use to neutralize these lies?
Day 4: Read Genesis 3. There was a time when Adam and Eve knew only “good” and not “evil.” What would your life be like if you only had a “knowledge of good” instead of a “knowledge of good and evil?”
Day 5: Read Genesis 3. Shame and fear cause us to hide from God and blame other people for our sin. Godly sorrow and faith cause us to confess/repent and experience salvation (2 Cor. 7:10). Are shame and fear causing you to hide from God and blame other people for your wrongdoing? If so, what are you trying to cover up and who are you blaming? Let godly sorrow and faith lead you into a time of confession/repentance that will result in forgiveness and deliverance.
Day 6: Read Genesis 3. Sin always has consequences! According to Gen. 3, how do the consequences of sin tarnish God’s intent and purpose for your life? |
