THE STORY OF SCRIPTURE

Personal and Family Devotional Guide

Week #3 – Noah and the Flood

Day 1:

                 1.  Read Gen. 6-7.

                 2.  The evil, wickedness, and corruption of Noah’s day grieved God (i.e. – filled

his heart with pain).  What grieves God about your generation?  What grieves him about your life?  Spend some time in confession and repentance – both for your sins and those of your generation.

Day 2:

                 1.  Read Gen. 8-9.

                 2.  Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he

walked with God.  Can this be said of you?  How would people, who know you well, describe your life based on the way you presently live?  Would you be proud of or embarrassed by their description?

Day 3:

                 1.  Read Gen. 6-7.

                 2.  Noah’s obedience was driven by faith (i.e. - he believed what God told him),

surrender (i.e. - he gave God complete control of his life), and holy fear (i.e. - he respected God and was afraid of the consequences of disobedience).  Are these the things that drive your obedience?  Ask God to deepen your obedience by deepening your faith, surrender, and respect for him.

Day 4:

                 1.  Read Gen. 8-9.

                 2.  God remembered Noah and kept the promises he made to him.  List some

promises God has made to you in his word.  What aspects of God’s nature drive him to always keep his promises?  End your time by praising God for who he is!

Day 5:

                 1.  Read Gen. 6-7.

                 2.  Noah found favor in God’s eyes because of his obedience.  He did “just as the

Lord commanded.”  Ask God to help you become more precise in your obedience.  Also, write down ways you have experienced God’s favor recently because of your obedience.

Day 6:

                 1.  Read Gen. 8-9.

                 2.  The flood teaches us that God uses his power both to punish and bless.  How

have you experienced God’s power in blessing and discipline recently?  Read Heb. 12:7-11 and praise God for both expressions of his power.
